Weekly Update-April 19th

Dear Families,
This week the children were troupers as they took the NYS Common Core ELA exam.  We are so proud of them.

A highlight from this week was conducting experiments in the lab that
allowed the children to identify both a physical and chemical change. Check out the pictures below.

Today we are celebrating Earth Day with the entire 5th grade.  We will be watching Disney Earth and eating healthy snacks provided by the class parents.  Thank you Class Moms!

The children are enthralled by our new read aloud, Crash by Jerry Spinelli.  This week we discussed the meaning of irony and how it is utilized throughout the text.  We also compared and contrasted the families of the two main characters.  This involved a great deal of inferring.

We continue to review math concepts in preparation for the NYS Common Core Math Exam the children will be taking next week.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Weekly Update-April 12th

Dear Families,
April is national poetry month. The children have been engaging in poetry stations where they have been exposed to figurative language. We have studied onomatopoeia, hyperbole, simile, metaphor, personification and idioms.

Below are pictures of the children in their stations.

Weekly Update-April 5th

Dear Families,
We hope everyone had a pleasant spring break. The kids filled us in on all your adventures on Monday. It sounds like you all really enjoyed yourselves.

This week we visited the DNA Lab in Cold Spring Harbor. The children extracted DNA from bacteria and toured the museum. They had an amazing time.

Here are some photos for you to check out.
