Weekly Update-May 1st

Dear Families,
In the photos below you will see your children preparing their lesson plan for our first grade reading buddies. They are working with their buddies on new vocabulary, reading skills and writing. The photos show the reading program in action.

    1. Hey Mr. Sinanis,
      Thanks for your inquiry. The reading program is based on the PBS program Martha Speaks. Each week it provides opportunities for students to practice communication, organization and comprehension skills. It improves word awareness and reading fluency. Each week specific words are targeted. This week the words unique, stupendous, talent and extraordinary were highlighted. The children discussed these vocabulary words by asking specific questions outlined in their lesson plan. They then played a vocabulary building game using these same words. This is known as talk and play. Next, the children read together. The book they read targeted the same vocabulary words. Lastly, they complete a writing assignment in their journal related to the key vocabulary. It is a valuable and enriching experience for both the 1st and 5th graders.
